Plant Allies Altar Cloths
Plant Allies Altar Cloths are crafted with plant allies to provide a sacred space for significant objects, intentions and practice.
With deep intention and prayer, I paint these altars with oil paint I hand-make on hand-sewn banana silk. Infused with the guardian plants who are on the altar cloth, the paint holds the medicine of the plants. Banana silk is a textile significant to my ancestral motherland of the Philippines, and one of the most durable and eco-friendly textiles.
The altar is a designated topography where the mundane is transformed into the sacred, a sacred space that can be portable. A meeting place for the energies that are intended to be connected with. These ceremonial works are interwoven with cosmograms of medicinal plants. Plants have a way of carrying ancestral medicine throughout time and space; their form a re-remembering of moving with and honoring the cycles of life.
